Great location just a short walk from Petco Park Ballpark! the room was really modern with a nice design and included a king-size bed and even a fancy feature like a PH level reader. 😊

The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Samara. When we left the hotel to explore SD for the day, we returned to find a very nice surprise in our room. Nice touch! The interior design is stylish and ultramodern with a lot of fun gadgets to play with (e.g., remote controlled mood lighting). The location of the hotel is perfect for people who want to explore San Diego's Gaslamp neighborhood. All you have to do is walk outside of the hotel and you are right in the center of the action.
I liked the shower set-up (right in the corner of the bedroom) because I was with my girlfriend, but I could see how this would be extremely awkward if I were traveling with friends, family or colleagues. If you are in this situation, this is not the hotel for you. Also, I didn't think the street noise really was as bothersome as some of the other reviewers have been reporting. As long as you keep the windows closed and you are not a very light sleeper, you should be fine.

The location was perfect for the Jazz Festival and also for walking around the Gaslamp area. The room amenities were first class and the espresso machine was a perfect wake up call.
The noise of the downtown traffic into the early morning hours was too loud in the room.

The design was great and the staff was awesome it was definitely an experience the hotel is definitely for the type of person that is into the nightlife
Being on the second floor was great until the night came and the nightlife started. It's definitely for the people who enjoy the late night partying because the noise was mad crazy.

The service was good. In the night they have a turn down service and they bring a little snack to the room.
The lift was not working for my whole stay. I had to use the stairs and especially going up this was not really what I was expecting. The bathroom is also strange being in the room itself with no coverage. As I was alone this did not bother me.

Luxurious stay, as always. Modern brand-new hotel, panoramic views of downtown. Large bedroom. Comfortable bed, especially helpful and brilliantly helpful staff. Best possible location with private parking nearby.

The hotel is old, no carpet on the floor, shower with no tub, or curtain, it is very noisy, the elivator old, and noisy and needs to be changed. there is no continental breakfast, although it is included in the price, when I asked they gave me a bag with yougart and cornflex bar and a juice(terrible). Also they charged me $3.00 daily, as a hidden fees( historic place charges).
I didn't like it at all

I liked being right downtown where I could walk to fabulous restaurants and browse unique shops.
I did not like the female manager. When the coffee machine was not working in my room, she blamed the problem on me.

Extremely attentive staff (welcome, remembered our names/car, provided maps, complimentary cookies, etc) and very comfortable bed. We didnt have an issue with the noise (it was mardi gras) as we were on the 4th floor in the back. The Merk hotel restaurant was fantastic! Would stay here again in a heart beat!
Perhaps calling it a 'design' hotel is a little misleading at first, but once you note the details it becomes clear. Be prepared for no official lobby. As with the other reviews, agreed it is a hotel to stay in with your significant other due to openness of the shower.
